Cameroonian cinema just wrote a new chapter of glory. Last night in Lagos, Nigeria, producer and director Kang Quintus won the award for Best Indigenous Film of Central Africa at the prestigious Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) for his film Mabanda.

This victory is more than just a trophy. It’s a historic moment. In 12 years of the AMVCA often called the African Oscars Cameroon had only won this award once before, thanks to producer Syndy Emade. Now, Kang Quintus becomes only the second Cameroonian producer ever to bring the statuette home, breaking a long period of regional dominance.

Mabanda impressed both the jury and audiences across Africa with its deep storytelling and strong connection to local realities. By winning in the indigenous category, the film highlights the importance of cultural identity and national languages in modern cinema.

Broadcast live on Africa Magic channels, the ceremony celebrated Kang Quintus’s hard work and high production standards. This award confirms the rise of Cameroon’s film industry on the African stage. Winning in Nigeria the heart of the continent’s audiovisual production proves that Cameroonian talent can now compete with Nollywood’s giants.

For Kang Quintus, this AMVCA trophy validates a powerful vision: an authentic, strong, and exportable African cinema. Last night, the green, red, and yellow flag flew proudly over Lagos.
