Catholic women from various Marian associations gathered at the Mary Queen of the Apostles Basilica in Mvolyé, Yaounde, on May 13, 2026, to celebrate the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations (WUCWO) Day of Prayer and Jubilee Candle Light Procession.
The event brought together hundreds of faithful dressed in blue-and-white uniforms symbolizing devotion to the Virgin Mary. Carrying candles, flags, rosaries, and religious statues, the women marched in a solemn procession marked by hymns, prayers, and meditations.
The spiritual march began in an atmosphere of reflection and unity as participants recited the Rosary while advancing towards the basilica. The candlelight procession, a strong symbol of faith and hope in the Catholic tradition, highlighted the commitment of Catholic women to peace, prayer, and Christian values.
After the symbolic march, the faithful gathered inside the basilica for a thanksgiving Mass celebrated in a spirit of communion and gratitude. Religious leaders called on the women to continue promoting solidarity, charity, and spiritual growth within their families and communities.
The celebration formed part of activities organized by the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations, an international Catholic movement that brings together women’s groups from different countries to encourage evangelization, social action, and women’s participation in Church life.
Located in the Mvolyé neighborhood of Yaounde, the Mary Queen of the Apostles Basilica remains one of Cameroon’s most important Catholic pilgrimage sites. The basilica regularly hosts major religious events and attracts worshippers from across the country.
